Six year old Tyrik Jenkins died when a truck collided with the vehicle he was riding in on Sunday. 19 year old illegal alien German Valdemar Godinez-Godinez was traveling southbound in his Dodge pickup truck when he collided with a Ford Ranger as it turned left going northbound. Godinez failed to stop at the red light.
Tyrik was riding in the bed of the Ford and was thrown from the vehicle on impact. He later died at the hospital. Two other children were also in the bed of the truck but their condition is unknown.
Godinez told Maricopa County, Phoenix Arizona, police he drank a bottle of whiskey, 12 beers, and used cocaine three times between Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning Godinez is a citizen of Guatemala and has family there. Police consider him a flight risk. He was charged with driving under the influence (DUI). The judge set bond at $250,000 cash only. Godinez’s next court date is October 10. Update: 10/04/16: ICE requests custody of suspect
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) plans to take custody of Godinez. ICE requested to be notified when Godinez is released from Maricopa County’s Sheriff’s Office. The immigration hold will “enable the agency to take custody to pursue possible administrative immigration enforcement action” according to an ICE spokesperson.
